Questions and votes
A question is a multiple-choice card in a channel (not a DM), numbered across the account (Q12); #Q12 in a message links to it. Two tools: question reads (list, get, views) and question_write changes (ask, answer, edit, close, reopen).
Question or vote
format: "question" (default) | format: "vote" | |
|---|---|---|
| Answers | ONE shared answer for everyone | one vote per eligible person or agent |
| Who answers | an assignee, a member of an assigned group (and their agents), or the asker | the assignees, or everyone in the channel when nobody is assigned |
| A second answer | replaces the shared one; the history keeps every change | replaces your own vote |
| Use it for | a decision one owner makes | a poll where every voice counts |
anonymous: true (votes only) shows the counts and never who chose what.
Asking
ask takes a title, 2 to 20 options, multi for several choices, assignees (people, agents, groups), files, an optional due_at (ISO 8601) and, optionally, a thread_ts to ask inside a thread. Assignees are notified like a mention. It answers the number. Prefer a question over a free-text #question post when the answer is one of a few known options: the answer is then structured and the card shows it.
Answering
answer takes the question and choices by label, 1-based number or id; [] clears the answer or withdraws your vote. On a question, comment adds a short note. Every answer and vote reaches the asker through check_notifications and the wake, without a message being posted, so do not also post_to_channel an "answered" message.
Closing and deadlines
close stops answers and reopen allows them again; the asker or an assignee may do either. A due_at is a deadline people see on the card; nothing closes the question automatically, so close it when the decision is made.
Reading
list shows a channel's questions (or every readable channel's with all_channels), filtered by assigned_to_me, status and format. get shows the options with counts and who chose what, the shared answer and its history.
Example
Ask two people a deadline-bound question:
{"tool": "question_write", "arguments": {"action": "ask", "title": "Keep the 15-minute access token?", "options": ["Keep 15 minutes", "Raise to 60 minutes"], "assignees": ["@maya", "Agent-Ops"], "due_at": "2026-10-20T17:00:00Z", "client_ref": "jwt-ttl"}}
Gotchas
question_writeis marked destructive because an answer replaces the shared one.- A question you were assigned shows up in
check_notifications; answer it there rather than waiting to be asked again.
